Watercolor and mixed media artist located in the Pacific Northwest.
As an artist with a background in the physical sciences, I use art as a platform to teach, explore, and understand how the world works. I’m heavily influenced by the contrasting landscapes of the Pacific Northwest and the way humanity and nature intertwine. My paintings tell a story of connection to science and nature and to the land itself.
With a small sketchbook and an even small paintbrush in my backpack, I travel and hike around the Pacific Northwest (and the world, as much as I can) to capture the vibrant details of mountains, forests, beaches and cities. While I sometimes paint from my own photos back in the controlled environment of my studio, I prefer painting perched on a rock at the top of a volcano (for example) where you can see the red, purple and yellow rocks of the different historic eruptions that would get washed out in a photo.
In addition to selling my own art at local art markets and galleries, I teach watercolor classes around the Portland and Vancouver area. In teaching, I try to make watercolors feel more approachable by using a style based on my experience as a science educator. My dream is to show people that science and art are two sides of the same coin. I was an Artist in Residence at Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument in 2025, and continue to teach art and field sketching for middle school and high school science field trips at the monument and beyond.
